"The eyes are the window to the soul"
I've spent a lot of time studying the human eye. In fact, like most optometrists, you could say I'm borderline obsessed with it. And while I assess and evaluate thousands of eyes a year, there's one person's eyes that I can't help but learn from on a daily basis. Her name is Alison.
In the spirit of getting married tomorrow, below is an article I wrote about the many things you can learn from the eyes of the one you love.
1) Why you work so hard
You work your tail off each and every day! And for what? So you can become more rich, more powerful, or more famous?
For some, this may be true. However, I'd like to think that many of the working professionals in our world are focused on providing for and protecting their loved ones.
2) When to call it a day
I can't tell you how many times I've been working on a project late into the night only to look into Alison's eyes and, without her having to say a word, know it's time to put work aside and relax for the remainder of the evening.
3) What's really important in life
A new and improved title. More money or power. Another award.
While all desirable in nature, there comes a point where you have to assess if these types of goals are really the most important thing in your life - especially if they sacrifice your time with your family.
4) When to leave a social event early
You know, that look that automatically insinuates it's time to get going.
We all know that look!
5) Where your future lies
No one can predict the future but when you take the time to pay attention and learn from the eyes of your loved ones, you'll often get signs that can lead you in the right direction.
6) How to inspire and lead
Need the motivation to take a risk, start a new job, or endeavor?
Look no further than the eyes of the one you love.
7) When to really listen
Our eyes hold the key to our emotional well-being.
Even more important, you can physically see when someone is in need of a listening ear all by paying close attention to what their eyes are telling you.
8) How to love without reservation
Because that's what they're there for.
Fall in love, each and every day, with the eyes of the ones you love.
What have you learned from the eyes of the one you love?
